E-MAKAZI Privacy Notice

Effective 19 September 2026

1. About this notice

This notice explains what personal data E-MAKAZI collects when you use our website or installed app, what we do with it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the rights you have over it.

2. Who we are

E-MAKAZI, operated by Quick Homes, runs two connected services in Tanzania. E-MAKAZI is a rental marketplace where landlords, agents and referrers list properties and tenants find them. E-KARIAKOO is our goods marketplace, where approved sellers list products and shoppers order them.

We are the controller of the personal data described here. Reach us at support@quickhomes.app.

3. The data we collect

Data you give us

  • Your account: your phone number, which we verify by SMS code and which identifies your account; your name; optionally an email address; and optionally a password if you choose to set one.
  • If you sell on E-KARIAKOO: your business name, the contact number your shop publishes, and your business location, submitted when you apply to sell.
  • What you list: property details including the address, area and map coordinates you select, or product details including title, description, price and stock, together with the photos and any video you upload.
  • When you order: the delivery name, phone number, area and any directions you enter at checkout. These are copied onto the order so it stays an accurate record of what was agreed.
  • When you send an order out: the name and phone number of the person delivering it, and how long you expect delivery to take. The rider is often not an E-MAKAZI user, so you may only give us their details with their agreement.
  • If you deliver an order and choose to share your location: your phone's position, how accurate it is, and which way you are heading, sent every few seconds from the delivery link while you keep it open. You start and stop this yourself on that page. We keep only your latest position, never a trail of where you have been, and we delete it when the delivery ends.
  • What you write: messages you send in chat, posts in the community group, comments, reports you file, and enquiries you send a seller.

Data we generate as you use the service

  • Which products you open, and when — this is what orders the marketplace home page.
  • Listings you favourite, viewings you request, and orders you place.
  • Your device's push-notification subscription, if you turn notifications on. You can turn them off at any time in your browser or device settings.
  • The time you were last active, which drives the “online now” count in the community group.
  • Standard technical records kept by our hosting providers, including your IP address and browser, and rate-limiting counters that use your IP to stop abuse.

What we do not collect

We do not take card or bank details. Orders on E-KARIAKOO are settled directly between buyer and seller on delivery, in cash or by mobile money, and no payment passes through us. We do not collect your date of birth, gender, biometric data, or social media profiles, and we do not buy personal data about you from advertising brokers.

4. Cookies

We do not use cookies, and there is no cookie banner to dismiss. Your sign-in session, your basket and an unpublished listing you are part-way through writing are kept in your own browser's local storage. That data stays on your device, is never sent to us as a whole, and clearing your browser data removes it.

5. How we use your data

  • Creating your account and signing you in by SMS code.
  • Publishing your listings and products, and showing them to other users.
  • Passing an order to the seller who has to fulfil it, with the delivery details you gave.
  • Carrying messages between you and other users, and notifying you of replies.
  • Ordering the marketplace home page around the categories you have actually been looking at.
  • Reviewing seller applications and verifying listings.
  • Detecting fraud and abuse, including our chat safety filter, which checks messages for attempts to move payment off the platform.
  • Answering your support requests, and meeting our legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it to target advertising.

6. Our legal basis

  • Performing our contract with you: running your account, publishing what you list, and passing your orders to sellers.
  • Our legitimate interests: keeping the platform safe from fraud and abuse, and making it work well — including the browsing signals used to order the home page.
  • Your consent: push notifications, and access to your camera, photos or location, each of which you grant and can withdraw in your device settings.
  • Legal obligation: where the law requires us to keep or disclose records.

7. Who we share it with

With other users, by design. When you publish a listing or product, its details and photos are public. A seller you order from receives your delivery name, phone number and address, because they cannot deliver without them. A seller's shop name is shown on their products; their personal sign-in number is not.

Rider details, with the buyer. When a seller sends an order out, its buyer sees the name and phone number of the person delivering it, so they know who is coming and can call them. The buyer sees the number only while the order is on its way. Once it is delivered, cancelled or returned, the buyer's copy keeps the rider's name and no longer shows the number. Both stay on the seller's record of the order.

Delivery links. A seller can send the person delivering an order a private link. It shows that person the buyer's delivery name, phone number, area and directions, and what is in the parcel, because they need these to deliver it. If the rider shares their location from the link, the buyer of that order and the seller who sent it see it on a map, and nobody else does. The link stops working, and the location is deleted, as soon as the order is delivered, cancelled or returned. Anyone holding the link can open it until then, so a seller should send it only to their rider.

With the providers that run the service. Each handles data only on our instructions and for the purpose named:

  • Hosting and database providers, which store the data described above.
  • A media storage provider, which holds the photos and videos you upload.
  • An SMS provider, which delivers your sign-in code to your phone number.
  • A mapping provider, used only on the listing form to suggest addresses as you type, and a geocoding service used to turn selected coordinates into an area name.
  • A website analytics provider, which counts page views without cookies and does not identify you.
  • An AI provider, which powers the E-Makazi AI assistant. It receives only the messages in conversations the assistant is itself a participant in — currently the welcome conversation — and never your conversations with other users.

With our administrators. Our staff can review seller applications, listings, reported content, and the assistant's own conversations, in order to moderate the platform.

Where the law requires it, or to establish or defend a legal claim.

8. Where your data is held

Our servers and the providers listed above are located outside Tanzania. Your data is therefore transferred and stored abroad. We use providers that keep data encrypted in transit and apply contractual protections, and this notice applies to your data wherever it is held.

9. How long we keep it

We keep your personal data while your account is open, and afterwards only where we still need it — to resolve a dispute, to prevent fraud, or because the law requires it.

Some records survive a deletion on purpose. An order keeps the name, phone number and delivery address given at the time, and the price and title of what was bought, because it is a record of a transaction between two people and the other party is entitled to keep their copy. Uploaded media that is never attached to a listing is deleted automatically within 24 hours.

10. Security

Connections to E-MAKAZI are encrypted. Passwords, where set, are stored hashed and never in a readable form. Access to personal data is limited to staff who need it to operate the service. Chat carries a warning against sharing payment details, and our safety filter flags messages that try to move a transaction off the platform. No service can promise absolute security, and we will tell you and the relevant authority about a breach where the law requires it.

11. Your rights

  • See and correct your data. Your name and email are editable on your profile. Your phone number can be changed there too, but only by confirming a code sent to the new number — it is the identity your account is anchored to. Your old number is told by SMS whenever it changes.
  • Delete your account. You can do this yourself from your profile, without contacting support. It permanently removes your account and the listings, messages and uploads attached to it, subject to the records described in section 9.
  • Turn off notifications in your browser or device settings, and withdraw camera, photo or location access the same way.
  • Object, restrict, or ask for a copy of your data, by writing to us at the address below.

We may ask you to confirm your identity before acting on a request, and we will respond within the period the law allows.

12. Children

E-MAKAZI is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly create accounts for children. If you believe a child has an account, write to us and we will remove it.

13. Changes and contact

If we change how we handle personal data, we will update this page and its effective date. For any question about this notice, or to exercise a right under it, contact us at support@quickhomes.app.
